Abdominal Pain
Abdominal pain is pain that you feel anywhere between your chest and groin. Your specific symptoms, the location of pain and when it occurs will help us diagnosis the cause.
Anal Abscess & fistula
An anal abscess is an infected cavity filled with pus found near the anus or rectum. Unfortunately, surgery is almost always necessary to cure an anal fistula.
Anal Fissure & Ulcer
Surgical options for treating anal fissure include Botulinum toxin (Botox®) injection into the anal sphincter and surgical division of a portion of the internal anal sphincter (lateral internal sphincterotomy). Both of these are performed typically as outpatient, same-day procedures, or occasionally in the office setting.
Appendectomy
Appendicitis is one of the most common surgical problems. Treatment may require an operation to remove the infected appendix. Generally, the appendix is able to be removed laproscopically.
Breast Disease
Breast Lumps
Breast lumps are often discovered during a breast self-examination or during a routine check-up. Upon noticing an unusual lump in the breast the best course of action is to schedule an examination with a physician who can best diagnose the type of breast lump and strategy for treatment. While male breast cancer is rare, a lump beneath the nipple is the most common symptom of male breast cancer. Most breast lumps, male and female, can usually be evaluated with an ultra sound in the office.
Breast Cancer
Most women with breast cancer will require surgery. Broadly, the surgical therapies for breast cancer can be divided into breast conserving surgery and mastectomy.
Breast Biopsy
A breast biopsy is a procedure in which part or all of a suspicious breast growth is removed and examined, usually for the presence of cancer. Typically, this can be done utilizing minimally invasive procedure such as a needle or mammotome biopsy.
Lumpectomy
Lumpectomy refers to the surgical removal of a small tumor, which may be benign or cancerous. Lumpectomy, often with chemotherapy or radiation therapy, can be an alternative to mastectomy in cases of nonmetastatic.
Constipation
Constipation occurs when bowel movements become difficult or less frequent. If you have constipation for more than two weeks, you should see a doctor so he or she can determine the source of your problem and treat it. If constipation is caused by colon cancer, early detection and treatment is very important.
Diarrhea
When diarrhea lasts for several weeks or contains blood, a serious illness may be the cause. In these cases, you should contact your doctor immediately to evaluate. A colonoscopy is the most common procedure used in diagnosis.
Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
Surgery is indicated for patients who have life-threatening complications of inflammatory bowel diseases, such as massive bleeding, perforation, or infection. It may also be necessary for those who have the chronic form of the disease, which fails to improve with medical therapy. Surgery is not "curative," although many patients never require additional operations.
Diverticular Disease
Surgery is reserved for patients with recurrent episodes of diverticulitis, complications or severe attacks when there's little or no response to medication.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a powerful diagnostic tool for digestive diseases. It is used to diagnose, and sometimes treat, conditions that affect the esophagus, stomach and beginning of the small intestine. Any polyps found can be immediately removed during the procedure. Helicobacter pylori is a fairly common infection in the lining of the stomach which can cause severe inflammation and even ulceration and it's difficult to diagnose accurately. When necessary we can now utilize new DNA testing to accurately make this diagnosis and prescribe appropriate treatment.
Gall Bladder
Laparoscopic gallbladder surgery removes the gallbladder and gallstones through several small incisions in the abdomen.
Hemorrhoids
Surgical removal of hemorrhoids can be used for large internal hemorrhoids, when several small hemorrhoids are present, or when other treatments have not controlled bleeding.
Hernias
The only way to effectively treat a hernia and provide lasting relief is to have it surgically repaired. Hernia repair is one of the most common types of surgery performed in the U.S. Dr. Major specializes in inguinal hernia repairs using Kugel Mesh which can be performed on an outpatient basis. He was the second physician in the United States to adopt this technique and has taught doctors all over the Southwest to utilize it as well.
Infrared Coagulation of Hemorrhoids
Infrared Coagulation is the most widely used office treatment for hemorrhoids and is preferred over other methods because it is fast, well-tolerated by patients, and virtually problem-free.
Rectal Bleeding
Bleeding in the digestive tract is a symptom of a problem rather than a disease itself. Most causes of bleeding are related to conditions that can be cured or controlled, such as hemorrhoids.
Skin Cancer
Surgical excision is the most common form of treatment for skin cancers. The goal of reconstructive surgery is restoration of normal appearance and function. The choice of technique in reconstruction is dictated by the size and location of the defect. Most of these procedures can easily be performed in our office.
Screening Colonoscopy for Colon Cancer
Colonoscopy is a safe, effective method of examining the full lining of the colon and rectum to screen for precancerous polyps. Removing polyps early is an important step in the prevention of colon cancer. Most colonoscopies are done on an outpatient basis with minimal inconvenience and discomfort.
Thyroid Disease
Treatment depends on the type of thyroid nodule you have. Most thyroid conditions never require surgery. If a biopsy shows that you have a benign thyroid nodule, in many cases you may need to do nothing more than monitor the nodules every 6 to 12 months for changes. This can easily be done with an in office ultrasound. For patients with indeterminate thyroid nodules, we utilize state-of-the-art DNA testing, which greatly improves preoperative diagnostic accuracy by reviewing DNA and RNA based markers to aid in the characterization of malignancy. Thyroid operations are advised for patients who have a variety of thyroid conditions, including both cancerous and benign (non-cancerous) thyroid nodules, large thyroid glands (goiters), and overactive thyroid glands.
